Every gift, no matter the size provides a child access to extra-curricular opportunities for growth and a promising future.
Occupational in Motion is a 501c3 and community organization for all children and families to come together for fun, exercise, socialization and inspiration. One of our events is called WHEELS. Our acronym W.H.E.E.L.S. demonstrates our cause, mission and passion. Biking is a skill that one can learn and use for a lifetime. Learning to ride a bike helps children attain an enormous amount of skills which range from strengthening gross and fine motor skills, learning to better solve socialize and mechanical problems, understanding the dynamics of teamwork and tapping into various parts of the brain and body for increased vitality and health. We also go beyond bike skills and teach skills for life! W.H.E.E.L.S. Bike Club is a safe place for people to learn and grow as a community in confidence, freedom and pride.
W. Wheels. Yes we are a bike club but also an all-inclusive bike club. Each child can join in on the W.H.E.E.L.S. fun through bikes, adapted bikes, bike with/without training wheels, tricycles, scooters …bring your wheels!
H. Hope. This organization gives each child and family hope and inspiration that anything great is possible.
E. Exercise. We want to stay active, healthy and fit. In our bike club we make exercising fun!
E. Evolve. Continued growth no matter how big or small and seeing lasting benefits is our mission for each child in our W.H.E.E.L.S. family.
L. Love. We show our love through loving our neighbor as ourselves. We love, we help, we give, we serve.
S. Socialization. We encourage positive community integration. We thrive when we help build one another up. When we come together to participate in each activity and beyond, we strive to leave each other even better than we came.
Each W.H.E.E.L.S. Bike club host is a registered occupational therapist within the state of Texas. Our curriculum was created by a pediatric occupational therapist that specializes in childhood cognition and development. Occupational Therapists are heavily qualified and credentialed to work with a variety of children individually and in groups and help develop each child's strengths and reach their highest potential.
Our W.H.E.E.L.S family includes children ages 5-17 years old plus their siblings, cousins, friends, classmates, etc.! We welcome children with all abilities as long as the child is interested and motivated to be a part of the bike club and is able to participate in our ongoing activities throughout the year. Since our bike club is excitedly inclusive, we welcome bikes, tricycles, bikes with training wheels, adapted bikes and scooters. We will even teach our members to ride a bike with and/or without training wheels. No motorized devices allowed at this time. Siblings and family members are always encouraged to join us!
Each member should be prepared to have so much fun all while developing exceptional skills for greatness. We meet 1 Saturday per month when in season for exciting W.H.E.E.L.S. activities, for exceptional growth and and to gain confidence in a variety of areas, to explore bike parks around the city and to develop meaningful and long lasting friendships.
We meet outdoors on Saturdays as determined by each W.H.E.E.L.S. Bike Club host. Each member's host will inform all club members of each Saturday location each month.
Safety is an absolute priority for our W.H.E.E.L.S. Bike Club Family. We strictly follow the CDC recommendations and guidelines for outdoor gatherings as it relates to COVID-19. We also require bike, wheels and helmet checks prior to participating in meet-up. Our therapists and volunteers are required to attend and participate in mandatory trainings throughout the year to help assure the safety of each member. Our members are also required to verbalize and demonstrate understanding of the W.H.E.E.L.S. Bike Club safety protocols and procedures.
Join us today! We strongly encourage positive community integration and love when siblings, friends, cousins, classmates and people that you love join in on the fun. The more the merrier!
